Daniel is a Labour councillor in the London Borough of Redbridge and has worked in education and mental health charities, as well as previously being active in NUS and Unite the Union - though now a member of GMB. He has been a trustee of two Jewish organisations in recent years. Outside of these, he sings with South West Essex Choir and is an experienced genealogist.
